Representative Lee Hosts Housing Town Hall for Southern Nevada Veterans

May 28, 2026 Press Release Joined by Ranking Member of the House Committee on Veterans' Affairs Image Watch and Download Video of Town Hall LAS VEGAS, NV – Yesterday, Congresswoman Susie Lee (NV-03) hosted a town hall with House Veterans Affairs Committee Ranking Member Mark Takano (CA-41) at Clark High School and met with southern Nevada veterans to discuss the unique challenges they face regarding housing. “I know that housing isn’t just a priority in southern Nevada — it’s a necessity, especially for our veterans. Our servicemembers sacrifice so much because they want to serve our country, and we need to do more to ensure our veterans are properly cared for when they return home,” said Congresswoman Lee. “I’m glad to work alongside Ranking Member Takano to ensure that veterans who have served our country receive the care and benefits that they have earned.” Congresswoman Lee helped pass H.R. 6644, the Housing for the 21st Century Act , a bipartisan housing package that makes long overdue improvements to federal housing programs in order to increase housing supply and lower costs for American families. A key provision of that legislation is permanently excluding veterans’ disability payments from annual income calculations under the Department of Housing and Urban Development Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing Program (HUD-VASH). VASH is a joint effort between the HUD and the VA, where HUD allocates “Housing Choice” Section 8 vouchers across the country. These vouchers allow Veterans and their families to live in market rate rental units while VA provides case management services. Veterans’ disability income will no longer be considered when applying for the HUD-VASH vouchers. From 2008-2024, HUD-VASH collectively provided over 2,000 vouchers to support Nevada’s veterans. I am incredibly thankful to Representative Susie Lee for hosting me in Nevada this week. It was a privilege to join her at her Veterans’ Housing Townhall and to connect with veterans in her community,” said Ranking Member Takano . “Veterans’ lasting success after service hinges on access to housing resources. Improving and guaranteeing that access remains one of our top priorities in Congress.” Lee has consistently worked to build more housing families can afford across southern Nevada. She led and helped get signed into law the bipartisan Accelerating Appraisals and Conservation Efforts (AACE) Act to speed up appraisals and approvals for Nevada housing projects and cut governmental red tape that drives up housing costs. Congresswoman Lee is also a cosponsor of the Housing Oversight and Mitigating Exploitation (HOME) Act to help lower housing costs for Nevadans by cracking down on price gouging by corporate investors who are buying up housing stock and driving up home prices.
