Senator Moody is championing the No Fentanyl on Social Media Act, which would direct the Federal Trade Commission, in coordination with the Department of Justice and Department of Health and Human Services, to report to Congress on minors’ access to fentanyl through social media, with recommendations to address this growing threat. This builds on Senator Moody’s strong background on fighting the fentanyl crisis as Florida’s former Attorney General and now U.S. Senator. “Drug traffickers adapt and continue finding new ways to push deadly fentanyl into our communities—including using social media to reach our children. As a mom, I’m always vigilant with regard to what my kid sees online. As Florida’s Attorney General, I made fighting the opioid crisis a major priority, and now in the Senate, I’m continuing the fight by championing the No Fentanyl on Social Media Act,” said Senator Ashley Moody. “This measure will expose how criminals use social media to sell fentanyl to minors and identify ways to stop them.” BACKGROUND: Florida recently announced that fentanyl deaths in the state have fallen more than 60% since 2023. According to the recent Florida Medical Examiners Commission’s 2025 Annual Drugs Identified in Deceased Persons Report, fentanyl-caused deaths decreased by 37% from 2024 to 2025. Additionally, Florida saw a 50% decrease in fentanyl analog deaths, 33% decrease in opioid-caused deaths, and a 12% decrease in total drug-related deaths overall. Florida’s decrease in fentanyl-related deaths outpaces the national drop of 22% . Fentanyl continues to be the leading cause of drug overdose deaths in the United States. The No Fentanyl on Social Media Act would provide Congress with clear and accurate data on the scope of this crisis, along with a series of policy recommendations to help address it. It would also assess platform design features, drug trafficking tactics, the effectiveness of platform policies and actions taken by law enforcement, medical experts and other stakeholders to combat the spread of fentanyl. Senator Moody has long fought to stop the flow of illicit fentanyl into Florida communities. As Senator, Moody championed and helped pass the HALT Fentanyl Act and sponsored the PRESS Act. Senator Moody also cosponsored Tyler’s Law. The HALT Fentanyl Act , signed into law by President Trump, assists law enforcement officers in getting fentanyl traffickers off the streets and permanently classifies fentanyl-related substances under Schedule I of the Controlled Substances Act. PRESS Act would criminalize the intentional importation of pill press machines and unlisted precursor chemicals with the intent to manufacture illicit drugs. Tyler’s Law would require HHS to issue guidance on whether hospital emergency departments should implement fentanyl testing as a routine procedure for patients experiencing an overdose. As Florida Attorney General, Senator Moody chaired the Statewide Task Force on Opioid Drug Abuse and secured a massive multibillion-dollar settlement from opioid manufacturers, distributors and pharmacies. # # # Join the Newsletter Email Address First Name Last Name Follow Follow Follow Follow Copyright 2024 Follow Follow Follow Follow Usage Policy PDF Help Privacy Policy Senate.gov
