Mike Levin’s Statement on Vote Against House Republicans’ Budget Proposal Washington, D.C .—Today, Rep. Mike Levin (CA-49) released the following statement regarding his vote opposing House Republicans’ budget proposal, known as the budget resolution, that would cut Medicaid, food assistance, and other programs millions of Americans rely upon in order to give tax cuts to the ultrawealthy and corporations. “My vote against House Republicans’ budget resolution was simple. Their proposal was a direct attack on the programs that everyday, hard-working Americans rely on to make ends meet and get ahead. It would cut Medicaid by at least $880 billion and threaten health care coverage for 80 million adults and children across the country. In our district, over 132,000 people on Medicaid could lose their health care, including 49,770 children under the age of 19 and 18,000 seniors over 65. “But it doesn’t stop there. House Republicans’ budget resolution would gut Medi-Cal, CalFresh, veterans’ benefits, and many other programs families need to survive. These are devastating consequences for my constituents, and I will not support them. “House Republicans made it abundantly clear what their priorities are: to finance tax cuts for the ultrawealthy on the backs of everyone else. They don’t care about what’s best for their constituents, they care about helping their billionaire friends. “Make no mistake, this will not be the last attack on these programs.
