Smith Encourages Nebraskans to Submit Comments as USTR Opens Public Consultation on USMCA Review

September 17, 2025 Press Release Washington, D.C. – Today Representative Adrian Smith (R-NE) released the following statement after the Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR), as directed by Congress, announced the beginning of a 45-day public comment period in advance of the 2026 Joint Review of the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA). "As we near the six-year review of USMCA, it is important for Nebraskans to share their perspectives on the agreement’s successes and potential improvements.  When negotiated in 2018, USMCA set a new standard for market access, science-driven standards, and effective enforcement. Feedback from the American people is an essential component to strengthen our shared economic security and ensure the full benefits of the agreement are realized by producers and consumers." The deadline for submitting comments is November 3, 2025. USTR also invites the public to express interest in participating in a public hearing on this topic.
