Washington, D.C.– U.S. Senators Ron Wyden and Jeff Merkley as well as U.S. Rep. Andrea Salinas today announced that airports in Yamhill and Morrow counties will receive a combined federal investment of more than $641,000 to improve their infrastructure.
“Small airports throughout our state require ongoing federal support like these infrastructure awards that ensure safe and reliable flights for local businesses, emergency responses, and all Oregonians,”Wyden said.“I’ll keep battling for similar investments that help all Oregon communities serve their communities in the air and on the ground.”
"Our regional airports are vital hubs for Oregonians, benefitting the folks who rely on them for business, travel, and so much more,”Merkley said.“Investing in essential airport improvements strengthens communities across our state. I’ll keep fighting to secure critical federal funds for improving the efficiency and reliability of Oregon’s airports.”
“Our airports must have up-to-date, reliable infrastructure so they can continue serving our communities,”said Salinas.“That is why I am proud to bring federal funding back to Oregon to make necessary improvements to our airports so that everyone can travel safely.”
The awards from the federal Department of Transportation for the Oregon airports are as follows:
"This $191,196 FAA investment in the Lexington Airport is a vital win for Morrow County’s aviation safety and local economy,"said Morrow County Chair David Sykes."By modernizing the precision approach path indicators (PAPIs) for Runways 8 and 26, we are ensuring that our pilots have the necessary tools for safe operations, which in turn secures the long-term viability of this essential regional asset."
