U.S. Senator Katie Britt Receives Alabama Wildlife Federation’s Legislative Conservationist of the Year Award
WASHINGTON, D.C. — U.S. Senator Katie Britt (R-Ala.) was named Legislative Conservationist of the Year by the Board of Directors of the Alabama Wildlife Federation (AWF) at the 2026 AWF Governor’s Conservation Achievement Awards banquet. Senator Britt is a previous board member of AWF and has continued her advocacy for Alabama’s abundance of natural resources in the United States Senate. Senator Britt was recognized at this 40-year-old event that celebrates individuals and organizations who have made great contributions to the conservation of Alabama’s wildlife and natural resources. “Alabamians know that ‘Alabama the Beautiful’ isn’t just a reflection of our state’s splendor and abundant natural resources, it’s a testament to our incredible farmers, fisherman, foresters, cattlemen, and so many more who work tirelessly to steward and preserve them,” said Senator Britt. “It’s a true honor to be named the Legislative Conservationist of the Year by the Alabama Wildlife Federation—an organization that I have been proud to serve in and now partner with to advance important legislative priorities. From our pristine Gulf Coast, to our rivers and waterways, to our farmland, to the millions of acres of forests that cover our great state, Alabama’s beauty is second-to-none. It’s an incredible privilege to fight for responsible conservation solutions in the Senate that protect these God-given resources and support the Alabamians who tend to them each and every day.” Due to votes in Washington, D.C., Senator Britt was unable to attend the banquet. Her award was accepted by her father, Julian Boyd. “Senator Britt has worked tirelessly to champion common-sense wildlife and natural resource conservation principles that help balance use, management, and protection of those important resources. AWF commends Senator Britt for earning and receiving this prestigious award,” said Tim L. Gothard, AWF Executive Director. Through this award, AWF recognized Senator Britt’s many conservation efforts, including: Securing $52 million to support Department of Interior efforts to combat aquatic invasive species such as hydrilla, eel grass, and milfoil. Securing $5 million to support critical work of the Gulf States Marine Fisheries Commission. Securing $1 million to support oyster restoration in Alabama waters.
