In Louisiana v. Callais
“Yesterday’s decision in Louisiana v. Callais is a deeply concerning development in the ongoing
effort to protect a fair and representative democracy.
At its core, this ruling risks weakening key protections of the Voting Rights Act - protections
that help ensure every community has a meaningful voice, especially Black and Latino
communities that have been historically underrepresented.
At a moment like this, we cannot be complacent. We must act with urgency to defend these
safeguards and reaffirm a fundamental principle: our democracy is strongest when it is inclusive,
representative, and accessible to all.”
