Senator Joan Huffman Receives Final Legislative Approval to Increase
School Safety Funding
AUSTIN – Today, the Texas Legislature granted final approval to Senate Bill 260, a historic school
safety funding bill authored by Senator Joan Huffman. The bill increases both the per-student and
per-campus school safety allotments to record levels and now awaits Governor Greg Abbott’s
signature to become law.
“I filed Senate Bill 260 after hearing from school superintendents and district officials who
emphasized the need for state support to meet the school safety requirements set by the Legislature
in 2023,” said Huffman. “Specifically, Senate Bill 260 doubles the per-student allotment from $10 to
$20 and raises the per-campus allotment from $15,000 to $33,540. I am grateful to my colleagues for
their unanimous support in both the House and Senate, which clearly demonstrates our strong
commitment to school safety and supporting school districts across Texas.”
(Senator Joan Huffman represents District 17, which is comprised of Colorado, Jackson, Matagorda, and Wharton
Counties and portions of Brazoria, Ft. Bend, Harris, and Waller Counties. Huffman currently serves as Chair of
the Senate Committee on Finance and as a senior member of the Senate Committee on Criminal Justice and the
Legislative Budget Board.)
