WASHINGTON, D.C.–Today, Senator Andy Kim (D-NJ) fileda War Powers Resolutionto make the people’s voice heard against Donald Trump’s war in Iran. On day 46 of this unconstitutional war, Senator Kimstood alongside fellow Democratsto make clear: as Donald Trump recklessly continues this war, driving up costs and causing instability in the region, Congress must vote – for the servicemembers in harm’s way and every American footing the bill for Trump’s war.
Senator Kim’s War Powers Resolution is one of several filed or to be filed by Senate Democrats to force Republicans to do their job and vote to reclaim Congress’ constitutional authority over this war.
“We’re seeing this war that’s being fought in our name, at our expense, but without our say…”said Senator Kim.“I worked there at the White House during wartime. I saw what it meant for us to be able to send our servicemen and women, and to be able to try to look after our own national security. Nothing that I see right now resembles anything that the American people should have to endure.”
He continued:“As we see a president now, basically playing chicken in the strait of Hormuz, and who is it that’s going to struggle and pay for this? It’s the American people.”
