In Exeter, Senator Hassan Hears from Small Manufacturer Struggling with the Cost of President Trump’s Tariffs

Visit Follows Release of New Report Detailing Harmful Impact of Tariffs and Uncertainty on Small Manufacturers EXETER – U.S. Senator Maggie Hassan yesterday visited Mace Machine, a small manufacturer in Exeter, to hear about the ways in which President Trump’s tariffs are hurting their business. During her visit to the manufacturer – which makes specialized parts and components used in electronics, aerospace, and national defense products – Senator Hassan spoke with Mace Machine’s leaders about the impact of the rising costs of inputs that the company has faced since President Trump imposed his tariffs last year. “Small businesses like Mace Machine are at the core of American manufacturing,” said Senator Hassan. “But, as I heard yesterday, President Trump’s reckless tariffs have created unnecessary burdens for small manufacturers by hiking costs for the inputs that they rely on. The President needs to reverse course and work with Congress on a bipartisan basis to support small manufacturers like Mace Machine who power our economy and strengthen our national security.” Last week, the Joint Economic Committee – Minority, which Senator Hassan leads as Ranking Member, issued a new report that details the ways in which President Trump’s reckless tariffs have inflicted harm on the small businesses that make up the American manufacturing base. In his inauguration speech, President Trump promised to make the U.S. “a manufacturing nation once again.” Yet more than a year into his second term, the Trump administration’s policies have done the opposite – resulting in a loss of more than 100,000 manufacturing jobs and a significant decline in small manufacturers’ profit margins. ###
