CHC Senators: Supreme Court’s Decision is a Betrayal of TPS Recipients

WASHINGTON – Today, U.S. Senators Ruben Gallego (D-Ariz.), Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.), Ben Ray Luján (D-N.M.), and Alex Padilla (D-Calif.)   released the following statement after the Supreme Court’s decision in Mullin v. Doe et al., which allows the Trump Administration to revoke Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Haitian and Syrian immigrants. This decision will enable the Administration to further its agenda of mass deportations while ignoring Congress’s original intent when establishing the program. “The Supreme Court’s decision in this case is a betrayal of American families,” said the Senators. “TPS is a legal immigration status and a lifeline for those fleeing violence and disaster. Here legally for decades, TPS recipients have become important members of our communities. For the Supreme Court to rubberstamp Trump’s mass deportation scheme is cruel and frankly un-American – the impacts will ripple across all immigrant communities and put every TPS holder at risk. Let us be clear: we will not stop fighting for a pathway to citizenship for families across America.”
