Nearly 1 in 4 Iowa households rely on SNAP or Medicaid to put food on the table or get the care they need. But here’s the reality : between 2018 and 2022, more than $500 billion may have been lost to waste, fraud, and abuse in America’s benefit programs. That’s money that should’ve gone to families in need — not fraudsters gaming the system. President Trump is right : we can protect benefits for Iowans while also rooting out the fraud that’s bankrupting these programs.
