Moolenaar on Tariffs for Canada, Mexico
February 3, 2025 Press Release President Donald Trump announced this weekend that the United States will impose a 25% tariff on goods imported from Mexico and Canada. “President Trump is working to secure our nation’s borders and stop the flow of fentanyl and other dangerous drugs into our country. The president of Mexico has already come to the table to negotiate an agreement on stronger border security, and I hope Canada will do the same,” said Congressman John Moolenaar. Today, Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum announced she has reached an agreement with President Trump to delay the implementation of the tariffs, including utilizing the Mexican National Guard to secure the southern border and stop illegal drug trafficking. Last year, Customs and Border Protection seized 21,000 pounds of fentanyl at the border. Fentanyl is the leading cause of death for Americans under the age of 50.
