Barrett Announces 2026 Congressional Art Competition Winner: Selena Arbogast from Ovid-Elsie High School

May 11, 2026 Press Release Image Washington, D.C. — Congressman Tom Barrett (MI-07) is proud to announce Selena Arbogast as the winner of the 2026 Congressional Art Competition for Michigan’s 7th Congressional District. WINNER: “Midnight Watch” by Selena Arbogast Image Selena’s colored-pencil drawing, “Midnight Watch,” is the winning submission from this year’s competition and will be displayed in the U.S. Capitol for one year alongside other winning entries from congressional districts across the country. Sophia is a 12th-grade student at Ovid-Elsie High School. "I’m proud to congratulate Selena Arbogast for winning this year’s Congressional Art Competition. Her colored-pencil drawing, 'Midnight Watch,' is truly a spectacular piece, and I know it will stand out amongst the other artwork displayed in the Capitol tunnel this year,” said Barrett. “I'm also grateful to all the talented students from high schools across the district who got involved and submitted their work. This competition reminds me every year just how much creative talent and artistic ability we have right here in mid-Michigan." Image On May 8, Barrett hosted a reception for the students, parents, and teachers involved in this year’s competition. Those in attendance received an update on the congressman’s work in the House of Representatives, enjoyed a chance to view all the artwork, and engaged in a fun celebration of all this year’s participants. Each Congressional office selects one winner to display in the tunnel connecting the Cannon House Office Building to the U.S. Capitol that is traveled daily by members of Congress, staff, and visitors to Washington, D.C.
