Lives are on the line

Last year, I introduced you to Deric and Kathy Kidd, whose son, Sebastian, was tragically lost too soon to fentanyl poisoning. Fentanyl poisoning is now the number one cause of death for Americans from my daughter’s age to my age. Simply put, this is unacceptable and the U.S. must act in order to save lives and protect our communities. I just voted to classify deadly synthetic fentanyl as a Schedule I drug – the same designation as heroin, LSD, and other deadly, easily abused drugs. The HALT Fentanyl Act would ensure that law enforcement has the authority to seize these extremely lethal drugs on the border and in our neighborhoods. Bottom Line: We can’t bring back Sebastian or other lives lost to fentanyl poisoning. But we can and must work together to save lives and prevent senseless deaths in the future.
