Bennet Statement on Trump-Saudi Nuclear Deal Washington, D.C. — Colorado U.S. Senator Michael Bennet, a member of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, released the following statement after the Trump Administration signed and announced an agreement under Section 123 of the Atomic Energy Act to provide Saudi Arabia with sensitive U.S. nuclear technology without adequate nuclear nonproliferation safeguards: “President Trump should […] Jul 23, 2026 | Press Releases Washington, D.C. — Colorado U.S. Senator Michael Bennet, a member of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, released the following statement after the Trump Administration signed and announced an agreement under Section 123 of the Atomic Energy Act to provide Saudi Arabia with sensitive U.S. nuclear technology without adequate nuclear nonproliferation safeguards: “President Trump should not agree to any nuclear cooperation agreement that provides Saudi Arabia sensitive U.S. nuclear technology without the ‘gold standard’ set of nuclear safeguards we’ve correctly demanded from other countries. “The Trump-Saudi deal will not advance a peaceful and prosperous Middle East. Instead, it risks undermining the global nuclear non-proliferation regime while threatening to instigate a nuclear arms race across an already volatile region – including by entrenching Iran’s nuclear ambitions, which will make it even harder to end Trump’s disastrous war.
