Congresswoman Sylvia Garcia Votes No on $70 Billion More for ICE and Border Patrol
June 9, 2026 Press Release WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congresswoman Sylvia Garcia (D-TX-29) released the following statement after voting against legislation that would provide an additional $70 billion for Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Border Patrol: "Today, I voted no on a bill that hands another $70 billion to ICE and Border Patrol, on top of the $140 billion Republicans provided in their Big, Ugly Bill. "Under this administration, ICE has violated civil rights, subjected people to inhumane conditions, forced its way into people’s homes without judicial warrants, and killed Americans with no real accountability. "Instead of exercising their constitutional oversight responsibility, MAGA Republicans are rewarding these agencies with billions more in taxpayer dollars while working families struggle to afford housing, health care, and groceries. "The American people do not want this. They do not want more raids, more masked agents, and more taxpayer-funded cruelty in their communities. "I will never vote for another penny for ICE until there is real oversight and significant reforms."
