Congressman Eric Sorensen Announces More Than $2.3 Million for Chestnut Health Systems to Advance Addiction Research

Image July 29, 2026 Press Release WASHINGTON, DC — Congressman Eric Sorensen (IL-17) announced that Chestnut Health Systems has been awarded more than $2.3 million from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to support drug use and addiction research. The funding includes two grants totaling $2,327,679 through HHS' Drug Use and Addiction Research Programs. “Substance use disorder impacts families and communities across Central and Northwestern Illinois,” said Congressman Sorensen . “Investing in research helps us better understand addiction, improve treatment, and save lives.
