Congressman Eric Sorensen Announces More Than $2.3 Million for Chestnut Health Systems to Advance Addiction Research

Image July 29, 2026 Press Release WASHINGTON, DC — Congressman Eric Sorensen (IL-17) announced that Chestnut Health Systems has been awarded more than $2.3 million from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to support drug use and addiction research. The funding includes two grants totaling $2,327,679 through HHS' Drug Use and Addiction Research Programs. “Substance use disorder impacts families and communities across Central and Northwestern Illinois,” said Congressman Sorensen . “Investing in research helps us better understand addiction, improve treatment, and save lives. I'm proud to see federal funding supporting the important work being done at Chestnut Health Systems, and I'll continue fighting for investments that strengthen healthcare and expand access to the resources people need.” The awards include: $1,327,996 for Drug Use and Addiction Research Programs $999,683 for Drug Use and Addiction Research Programs The funding will support ongoing research aimed at advancing the understanding of substance use disorders and improving prevention, treatment, and recovery efforts.
