Horsford Announces Nearly $150K for Clark County Nutrition Company

January 10, 2025 Press Release Funds Will Help Vitamin Manufacturer Increase Production Five-Fold, Combat Environment Impact NORTH LAS VEGAS – Congressman Steven Horsford (NV-04) today announced an award of $143,530 in grant funding from the U.S. Department of Agriculture for Matsun Nutrition in Mesquite, Nevada. The investment will replace existing vitamin manufacturing infrastructure, taking production from the current 1,600 bottles per hour to 8,000 bottles per hour , and allowing the company to reclaim and recycle steam that is currently lost to the atmosphere, saving Matsun Nutrition approximately 59,000 gallons of water per year . “The grant funding I’m announcing today is a win for Matsun Nutrition, a win for our local economy, and a win for our environment,” Rep. Horsford said . “Nevadans will be breathing cleaner air, and a local business that has been employing our neighbors for more than three decades will now operate at lower costs and with increased sustainability.” The award Matsun Nutrition received today is a Rural Energy for America (REAP) grant, intended to help farmers and small business owners make energy efficiency improvements and expand their use of wind, solar and other forms of clean energy. REAP is a part of President Biden’s Justice40 Initiative , which aims to ensure 40 percent of the overall benefits from certain federal climate, clean energy, and other investment areas flow to disadvantaged communities that are marginalized by underinvestment and overburdened by pollution. Matsun Nutrition’s award is thanks to the President’s Inflation Reduction Act , America’s largest-ever investment in combatting the climate crisis. “What’s good for the environment is good for local businesses and good for our communities,” Rep. Horsford continued . “This investment shows how political rhetoric pitting environmental justice against business interests is a false choice – it holds disadvantaged communities back and robs local businesses of opportunities to thrive. We all benefit by moving beyond it.” More information about Rep. Horsford’s work advancing environmental stewardship is available here . Issues : Economy Energy and the Environment
