Sykes Secures More Than $7.5 Million For Head Start in Stark County CANTON, OH — Today, U.S. Representative Emilia Sykes (OH-13) announced the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has awarded the Stark County Community Action Agency $7,539,166 for its Head Start Program. These funds are a continuation of a grant the organization was previously awarded. “Head Start plays a critical role in helping families secure the American Dream. Through supporting the healthy development of children and ensuring they are set up to be successful in kindergarten and beyond, Head Start lowers childcare costs for parents and guardians. It helps parents get into the workforce and secure opportunities that otherwise may be unattainable without reliable, affordable childcare,” said Rep. Sykes. “This grant award of Head Start and Early Head Start funding serves as a significant and critically important investment in the Stark County Community Action Agency's commitment to support and provide needed early childhood educational development, health and family services to Stark County's most vulnerable children and families, designed to provide pathways to their future success,” said Stark County Community Action Agency CEO Rodney Reasonover. Head Start is a federally-funded program that provides school readiness and ensures that both low-income children and parents are prepared for kindergarten and for a life filled with learning. Additionally, through direct service or referrals, Head Start children receive numerous health services ensuring good physical, dental, nutritional and mental health. Head Start is available at no cost to pregnant moms, infants, toddlers and children up to age five from income-eligible families. Children with special needs are also welcome. Print Email Share Tweet
