Press Release
WASHINGTON, D.C. — U.S. Senator Peter Welch (D-Vt.) today released the following statement on the Department of Justice’s (DOJ) expanded agreement to bar the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) from pursuing claims or audits against President Trump or his family: “Donald Trump’s Department of Justice just gave the president, his family, and his businesses immunity. Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche handed President Trump a get-out-of-jail-free card. This is corruption, through and through. Acting AG Blanche swore, under oath, that he would follow the advice of career ethics officials regarding whether to recuse himself from cases involving Donald Trump. Those career ethics officials told him to recuse himself from any claims by President Trump against the government, but he personally signed off on this egregious directive. He should resign immediately.” ###
