Senator Hassan Visits Newport Farm, Discusses How Trump’s Policies are Driving up Costs for Families

NEWPORT – U.S. Senator Maggie Hassan toured the locally owned Beaver Pond Farm in Newport on Friday to hear directly from farmers about how President Trump's policies, including tariffs and the illegal war in Iran, are driving up costs and hurting New Hampshire farms. The farm’s owners described how higher fuel prices and increased costs for equipment and replacement parts are making it more expensive to operate. At the same time, the Trump Administration has delayed, eliminated, or severely reduced federal agriculture programs that New Hampshire farmers have relied on for decades, creating uncertainty and driving costs up even further. “New Hampshire's farms are essential to our state's economy and way of life. President Trump's policies are driving up costs and making it harder for farms like Beaver Pond to feed Granite Staters,” said Senator Hassan. “I appreciated the opportunity to hear from the farmers about the impacts they’ve seen and the need for the Trump administration to reverse course.” Earlier this year, a Joint Economic Committee report found that families paid an average of $310 more for groceries in 2025 under President Trump. Today, a new report found that New Hampshire families have paid $559 more per household on gas since the start of the Iran war.
