Mark Discusses the Need for Bold Healthcare Reform ​​​​​​​ Last week, Republicans on the House Education & Workforce Committee's Subcommittee on Health, Employment, Labor, and Pensions held a hearing under the pretense of addressing the healthcare affordability crisis while their Big Ugly Bill kicks 15 million people off of Medicaid and private insurance. The hearing examined only minor reforms that could possibly result in negligible cost savings in the healthcare sector. As the top Democrat on the Subcommittee, Congressman DeSaulnier discussed the need for bold reform that would actually expand access to quality, affordable health coverage. Image Republican Dysfunction Continues in Congress For the second week in a row, House Republican leadership sent Members of Congress home early after failing to advance legislation due to Republican dysfunction. Far-right Members of Congress are demanding that President Trump's unpopular voter suppression bill be signed into law before any other major legislation can be considered. As such, last week the House of Representatives was only able to vote on a few pieces of legislation, including: H.Res. 1399, which requires the House Ethics Committee to release the names of Members of Congress whose sexual misconduct investigation led to a settlement, along with the total amount of the settlement. Congressman DeSaulnier voted in favor of this bill which passed the House. H.Con.Res. 108, which would direct the President to remove United States Armed Forces from any hostilities in Lebanon within seven days of enactment.
