Blumenthal & Cassidy Introduce Bill to Help Disabled Veterans Access Education

[HARTFORD, CT] – Today, U.S. Senators Richard Blumenthal (D-CT), Ranking Member of the Senate Veterans’ Affairs Committee, and Bill Cassidy (R-LA) reintroduced theInforming VETS Actto better inform veterans with disabilities about the education benefits available to them.
“Veterans who bravely served our country deserve to know about the educational benefits they’ve earned. The Informing VETS Act ensures disabled veterans are aware of the resources available to them – promoting employment and job training. I’m proud to join this bipartisan effort to guarantee disabled veterans are equipped to succeed after serving,”said Blumenthal.
AGAO reportin 2022 highlighted that the majority of veterans did not know about the Veteran Readiness and Employment (VR&E) Program, despite knowing about the benefits available to them through the GI Bill. TheInforming VETS Actrequires the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) to raise awareness of the VR&E program by regularly sending letters to eligible veterans discussing the educational benefits. The bill also requires the VA to provide a side-by-side comparison of benefits between the GI Bill and the VR&E programs online.
