Rosen Slams Washington Republicans for Continuing to Oppose Deal to Reopen Government & Prevent Massive Spike in Health Care Costs

WASHINGTON, DC –Today, during the first day of the Washington Republicans’ government shutdown, U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen (D-NV) released the following statement slamming Republicans and President Trump for their refusal to address the nation’s health care crisis. Senator Rosen voted yesterday and today in favor of legislation to keep the government open and address the looming spike in healthcare costs, as the Affordable Care Act’s tax credits are set to expire soon.
“Donald Trump and Washington Republicans already gutted Medicaid — and now they’re holding our entire government hostage, all to block action that would stop health care costs from skyrocketing for millions of Americans,”said Senator Rosen.“Their refusal to work across the aisle has forced a reckless shutdown that puts countless families’ health and financial security at risk. The solution is clear: Republicans must join Democrats in reopening the government and protecting the tax credits that keep health care affordable for working families. I’ll continue standing with hardworking Nevadans, fighting to lower health care costs, and put an end to this reckless Republican shutdown.”
Anew analysisreleased by the non-partisan Kaiser Family Foundation showed that health care premiums for hardworking families would more than double if the Affordable Care Act’s (ACA) enhanced premium tax credits are not extended this year. In Nevada, nearly95,000people directly benefit from lower health care costs thanks to the enhanced premium tax credits.
