During National Small Business Week, Senator Hassan and Manchester Small Business Owner Discuss Challenges Created by Trump Tariffs

Visit Follows Release of a New Report on How Trump’s Tariffs Are Hurting Small Businesses MANCHESTER – Yesterday, U.S Senator Maggie Hassan and a Manchester small business owner discussed the ways in which President Trump’s tariffs are challenging small businesses across the state. The Senator met with Karen Boisvert and Mike Pelopida of Queen City Cabinetry, a specialized kitchen and bath firm that both sells and installs a range of cabinetry lines. During her visit, Senator Hassan heard from Queen City Cabinetry’s leaders about the economic strain that the company has experienced since President Trump imposed tariffs last year, including challenges tied to revenue and staffing. “Small businesses are the lifeblood of our state and our economy, but President Trump’s tariffs are making it much harder for our smallest businesses in particular to stay afloat,” said Senator Hassan. “What I heard at Queen City Cabinetry reflects a new report released by the Joint Economic Committee Minority, which found that in the year since Trump announced his tariffs, small business employment and revenue have both fallen fast while the price of key inputs across industries has continued to rise.” The Joint Economic Committee – Minority, led by Senator Hassan, released a report yesterday highlighting declines in employment and revenue at the smallest businesses. The report includes new Committee data, including that the smallest businesses lost 4.5 times more jobs in 2025 than during the pandemic in 2020. This report comes during National Small Business Week , which runs from May 3 – 9, 2026. ###
