Senator Justice Champions the SAFE Act at Aging Committee Hearing
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Senator Jim Justice, a member of the Aging Committee, attended a hearing titled, Preventing Falls, Preserving Independence: Technology, Community Programs, and Innovation in Senior Safety . During the hearing, Senator Justice discussed his bill, the Stopping Addiction and Falls for the Elderly (SAFE) Act. “I recently sat down with some outstanding physical therapists from West Virginia, and we got to talking about falls and balance issues as people get older. It may not sound like a big deal to some folks, but one serious fall can completely turn a family’s world upside down. The SAFE Act is a bill I’m truly proud to introduce because our seniors deserve to feel safe and able to prevent falls before they happen,” said Senator Jim Justice . WATCH HERE BACKGROUND: The SAFE Act allows seniors on Medicare to receive a no-cost falls risk assessment from a physical or occupational therapist as a part of their annual wellness visit so they can detect problems before someone gets hurt. Senator Justice has been an advocate for healthcare and seniors since his time as Governor , and continues that fight in Washington, DC.
