STATEMENT: Sen. Schiff Opposes Jeanine Pirro’s Nomination to U.S. Attorney Role, Citing Blind Loyalty to Trump and Record of Promoting Dangerous Conspiracies
Washington, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Adam Schiff (D-Calif.), a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, issued the following statement ahead of voting against the nomination of Jeanine Pirro to serve as the permanent U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia.
President Donald Trump named Pirro to the role in an interim capacity after he was forced towithdraw his last nominee, Ed Martin, amid bipartisan scrutiny anda holdplaced by Schiff.
“Jeanine Pirro’s unflinching commitment to promoting the Big Lie regarding the 2020 election and her rewriting the history of January 6th makes her nearly unrivaled in her blind obedience to President Trump.
“Even Fox News had topull her off the airbecause her lies about the 2020 election were so egregious they exposed the network to hundreds of millions of dollars in damages for defamation. If her own colleagues at Fox said they ‘don’t trust her to be responsible’, then who can expect her to be a principled and serious public servant?”
“The Senate needs to take its constitutional responsibility of advice and consent seriously and stop someone as unfit as Pirro from serving as a chief law enforcement officer for the District of Columbia, one of the most important prosecutorial offices in the nation.”
