Senator Blanco’s Statement on Court Ruling Striking Down
In-State Tuition for Texas Students
"I’m deeply disappointed by today’s decision to dismantle a policy that, for over 20 years, has
given Texas students who’ve grown up here a fair shot at higher education.
“These students are part of our communities. They’ve gone to our schools, stood for the pledge,
and played under the Friday night lights. Many have never known another home. Denying them
in-state tuition hurts their future and weakens the State of Texas. Experts say it could cost our
state over $400 million in lost economic output. That’s fewer graduates, fewer skilled workers,
and more pressure on public services.
“The Texas Miracle was built by hardworking people from all backgrounds. Turning our backs
on these students undermines that legacy and moves us in the wrong direction."
