Moulton Secures Over $10.9 Million in Federal Funding for Local Projects Across Massachusetts’ Sixth District

January 8, 2026 Press Release WASHINGTON, D.C. — Congressman Seth Moulton (MA-06) announced today that $10,925,000 in Community Project Funding has been awarded through the Interior, Environment, and Related Agencies Appropriations bill, which Congressman Moulton voted Yes on today. The federal funding secured by Congressman Moulton will support 10 critical water and wastewater infrastructure projects across Massachusetts’ Sixth District. The funding will help municipalities upgrade outdated drinking water systems, modernize wastewater infrastructure, mitigate PFAS contamination, and strengthen resilience against flooding, storm surge, and sea level rise. These initiatives will protect public health, the environment, and local economies. “I’m proud to secure this funding to help surge investment in these key local projects that will help families in our community trust that their drinking water is clean and that our wastewater systems are safe, reliable, and prepared to handle the impacts of climate change,” said Congressman Moulton. “From PFAS mitigation to replacing 70- and 80-year-old pipes, these community projects will deliver real, tangible benefits for public health, the environment, and local taxpayers. I will continue to fight for additional funding that will help our cities and towns tackle infrastructure challenges that they can’t shoulder alone." Following passage in the House, the funding bill will now advance to the Senate for consideration before being signed into law. Also requested by Sens. Markey and Warren. Merrimac Wastewater Treatment Plant Upgrades Award: $1,092,000 Recipient: Town of Merrimac Funding will support engineering for critical upgrades to Merrimac’s wastewater treatment plant, including a third secondary clarifier and energy-efficiency improvements to safely handle peak flows and modernize operations. Nahant Wastewater Infrastructure Upgrades Award: $1,092,000 Recipient: Town of Nahant This project will construct a new force main, assess the Wharf Road pump station, and improve stormwater drainage to reduce flooding and increase resilience to sea level rise and storm surge. Also requested by Sens. Markey and Warren. Newburyport PFAS Water Filtration System Award: $1,092,000 Recipient: City of Newburyport The City of Newburyport will design a new PFAS filtration system using granular activated carbon to address PFAS contamination, taste and odor issues, algal blooms, and other water quality challenges exacerbated by climate change. Also requested by Sens. Markey and Warren. Essex Drinking Water System Improvements Award: $1,092,000 Recipient: Town of Essex Funding will support the replacement of aging asbestos cement pipes—some more than 70 years old—to reduce water main breaks, remove hazardous materials, and improve system reliability. Also requested by Sens. Markey and Warren. Hamilton–Wenham Regional Drinking Water Connection Award: $1,092,000 Recipient: Town of Hamilton The project will extend new water piping and upgrade meters and infrastructure to improve water pressure, increase supply reliability, and prevent contamination from aging pipes. Ipswich Drinking Water Infrastructure Upgrades Award: $1,092,000 Recipient: Town of Ipswich Ipswich will replace two aging municipal groundwater wells—70 and 82 years old—to restore capacity, improve water quality, and address structural deterioration.
