Clyburn Celebrates $205 Million For South Carolina Rail Crossing Projects In Columbia And North Charleston

<p><strong>COLUMBIA, S.C. –&nbsp;</strong>U.S. Congressman James E. Clyburn (SC-06) released the following statement celebrating the U.S. Department of Transportation’s announcement of $204,200,000 for the Assembly Street Railroad Project in Columbia and $940,000 for the City of North Charleston Rivers Avenue Grade Separation Planning. These projects were funded by the Rail Crossing Elimination Grant Program.</p>

<p>“Today’s announcement of $205 million&nbsp;from the U.S. Department of Transportation will be transformative for&nbsp;two&nbsp;major rail crossings in Columbia and North Charleston,”&nbsp;<strong>said Congressman James E. Clyburn</strong>.&nbsp;&nbsp;“By making crossroads safer, we are ensuring South Carolinians can get to their destinations safely, avoid traffic delays, provide smoother pathways for freight rail without risk of collision&nbsp;and improve air quality.&nbsp;Thanks to the Biden-Harris Administration’s Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, we are tackling long-standing issues in moving people and goods efficiently and safely.”</p>

<p>The U.S. Department of Transportation’s Rail Crossing Elimination Grant Program provides funding for highway-rail or pathway-rail grade crossing improvement projects that focus on improving safety and mobility.&nbsp;</p>

<p>On January 10, 2025, the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) announced $1,166,797,075 in Fiscal Year (FY) 2023 and 2024 in funding for the Railroad Crossing Elimination (RCE) Grant Program to 123 projects in 41 states.</p>
