Walberg Applauds DOL Plan to Make Health Benefits Easier to Access

Image July 24, 2026 Press Release Education and Workforce Committee Chairman Tim Walberg (R-MI) released the following statement after the Department of Labor proposed a rule to improve how employers and health plans communicate with workers about their health benefits: "Americans shouldn't have to rely on outdated paper notices to learn about their health benefits. This proposal gives workers and their families timely, easy access to information about their health benefits, while reducing unnecessary costs for employers. "Last year, Committee Republicans urged the Department of Labor to make electronic delivery the default for health plan disclosures because it would lower costs while improving access to important information. I'm pleased the Department has acted on our request, and I look forward to seeing this rule finalized." BACKGROUND Last year, Chairman Walberg led Committee Republicans in urging the Department of Labor to establish a default electronic delivery safe harbor for ERISA health and welfare plan disclosures, pointing out the change would reduce regulatory burdens, lower costs, and improve workers' access to benefit information.
