Shaheen Applauds Senate Passage of Bipartisan Resolution to Establish October 7 as Energy Efficiency Day

(Washington, DC) – U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) applauded the unanimous Senate passage of her bipartisan resolution to designate today, October 7, 2026, as Energy Efficiency Day. Amid ongoing attacks by the Trump Administration on energy efficiency initiatives that lower costs, this resolution celebrates and promotes the economic and environmental benefits gained from investing in energy efficiency. “Energy efficiency is one of the most effective tools we have to help Granite State families save money, support good-paying jobs and build a cleaner energy future,” said Senator Shaheen. “With diesel prices at historic highs and energy costs rising as a direct result of the President’s war in Iran, I’m proud to continue fighting to protect energy efficiency initiatives and am pleased the Senate came together to pass this bipartisan resolution recognizing Energy Efficiency Day and reaffirming its importance.” The text of the resolution can be read HERE . The resolution is co-led by Senator Susan Collins (R-ME) and cosponsored by U.S. Senators Chris Coons (D-DE), Chris Van Hollen (D-MD), Jack Reed (D-RI), Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI), Richard Blumenthal (D-CT), Maria Cantwell (D-WA), Peter Welch (D-VT), Angus King (I-ME), Tina Smith (D-MN), Ron Wyden (D-OR), Richard Durbin (D-IL), Mazie Hirono (D-HI), Ed Markey (D-MA), Maggie Hassan (D-NH), Tim Kaine (D-VA), Mark Warner (D-VA), Amy Klobuchar (D-MN), John Hickenlooper (D-CO) and Lisa Blunt Rochester (D-DE). Throughout her time in Congress, Shaheen has championed efforts to advance energy efficiency, lower energy costs for Granite Staters and support clean energy initiatives. Recently, Shaheen joined a bipartisan group of Senators in urging the Trump Administration to swiftly release funding for the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP), which can be used to address emergency heating needs and weatherize homes against the elements. More than 57,000 Granite Staters rely on LIHEAP to help pay their home heating bills. Earlier this year, Shaheen introduced bipartisan legislation to ensure funding from the Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP) and State Energy Program is distributed without delay to state agencies and local partners that implement cost-saving energy initiatives. Shaheen was also a key supporter of the Inflation Reduction Act and a lead negotiator of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law , legislation that made landmark investments in energy efficiency and reducing home energy bills. In the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law , Shaheen helped secure $3.5 billion in additional funding for WAP, including $18 million for New Hampshire. ###
