Congressman Fields Condemns President's Threatening Remarks at Davos

January 21, 2026 Press Release WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman Cleo Fields (D-LA-06) strongly condemns President Trump's address at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, calling the President's rhetoric toward NATO allies and world powers unprecedented and harmful to American interests. "We did not elect a leader with unchecked power who can threaten our closest allies because of their refusal to blindly comply,” said Congressman Fields . “When Danish military forces came to our aid after 9/11, forty-four soldiers bravely lost their lives. Is this how we choose to honor their sacrifice, by brandishing our own military forces against them to pressure compliance?” During his address at the World Economic Forum, President Trump suggested that without the United States, allied nations would not survive—an assertion Rep. Fields called "a dangerous claim, not diplomacy." The President also referenced using "excessive strength and force" regarding Greenland, while criticizing NATO allies who have stood with America through decades of shared security challenges. "Here is what the President refuses to acknowledge: the 1951 Defense Agreement with Denmark—updated as recently as 2004—already grants the United States extensive military access to Greenland," Rep.
