StatementView on fallon.house.gov

Washington, D.C.-- Today, Rep. Pat Fallon (TX-04) introduced the District of Columbia Attorney General Appointment Reform Act which would grant the President of the United States the ability to appoint the Attorney General for the District of Columbia. This bill comes as President Donald Trump has taken the initiative to pursue a crackdown on crime in Washington, D.C., which, in recent weeks has led to a significant 15 percent decrease in the district's overall crime rate and has seen the rate of violent crime fall nearly by half. “In recent years, D.C. saw close to two-thirds of arrests go unprosecuted, which made clear, far and wide, that crime in the nation’s capital would go unpunished,” commented Rep. Fallon . “Law-abiding residents and visitors to Washington, D.C., deserve to live their lives free from rampant crime, which is why it is critical to ensure that the President and Congress can hold the district’s attorney general accountable when public safety is in jeopardy.” ###
