Rep. Sykes Applauds House Move to Protect Federal Workers’ Rights

December 11, 2025 Rep. Sykes Applauds House Move to Protect Federal Workers’ Rights WASHINGTON, D.C. — U.S. Representative Emilia Sykes (OH-13) today praised the House’s passage of a discharge petition that forces a vote on legislation restoring collective bargaining rights for over one million federal employees. Rep. Sykes signed the petition, making clear she stands with the workers who keep the government running. “Federal employees deserve a voice on the job,” said Rep. Sykes. “This action ensures they have it. These public servants, many of whom are veterans, should never have had their rights stripped away.” The legislation overturns the executive order that took away bargaining rights from workers across major federal agencies. With House passage secured, the bill now moves to the Senate for consideration. Federal employees already have limited bargaining rights, covering only conditions of employment. This legislation restores fairness while supporting accountability, efficiency, and morale. The measure is endorsed by a wide range of labor organizations, including the American Federation of Government Employees, the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees, the International Federation of Professional and Technical Engineers, the National Postal Mail Handlers Union, the National Treasury Employees Union, the Professional Aviation Safety Specialists, the Laborers International Union of North America, the Service Employees International Union, and the United Steelworkers.
