Houchin Announces Local Public Safety Projects Advance Through Appropriations Committee

May 15, 2026 Press Release WASHINGTON, D.C. — Congresswoman Erin Houchin (IN-09) announced today that two Community Project Funding requests totaling over $700,000 for Indiana’s Ninth District have advanced through the House Appropriations Committee after previously passing the Commerce, Justice, Science, and Related Agencies Subcommittee. The projects would support law enforcement operations and emergency communications infrastructure in Southern Indiana communities. “These projects will help strengthen public safety, improve emergency response capabilities, and give local law enforcement and first responders the tools they need to better serve our communities,” said Rep. Houchin. “ Whether it’s combating drug trafficking and online exploitation or improving emergency communications and response, these investments support the safety and security of Southern Indiana families.” The following projects were included: $614,000 for Washington County 9-1-1. The Emergency Radio Communications Critical Improvements project would fund technology upgrades on two existing radio towers and improve radio programming for emergency services. $110,000 for the City of North Vernon Police Department. The Digital Undercover Exploitation and Narcotics Interdiction Initiative would support the North Vernon Police Department’s efforts to expand investigations targeting narcotics trafficking, human trafficking, and online child exploitation. The projects must still pass the full House of Representatives, the United States Senate, and be signed into law before funding is finalized. In FY2026, Congresswoman Houchin secured over $15 million in Community Project Funding for nine projects across IN-09.
