RELEASE: Gottheimer Calls for Continued Negotiations and Immediate Relief for Commuters During NJ Transit Strike

NORTH JERSEY — Today, May 16, 2025, U.S. Congressman Josh Gottheimer (NJ-5) called for NJ Transit and the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen (BLET) to remain at the negotiating table and work around the clock, 24/7, until a deal is reached and train service is restored.

Gottheimer also called for immediate relief for Jersey commuters impacted by the strike. Specifically, Gottheimer is calling for a full reimbursement of tolls — including from the Port Authority, E-Z Pass, and the New Jersey Turnpike Authority — for Jersey riders during the strike who have a NJ Transit monthly unlimited trips pass. He further called on New York Governor Kathy Hochul and the MTA to suspend New York’s Congestion Tax until train service is fully restored.

“I’m urging both sides to stay at the table 24/7 until a deal is done that works for workers, riders, and our state,” said Congressman Josh Gottheimer (NJ-5). “I’m having active conversations with those involved in the negotiations and remain hopeful that we can reach a solution that guarantees good wages, protects workers, and keeps our trains moving.”
