Rep. Bera Stands with Troops and Federal Workers, Requests His Pay Be Withheld During Government Shutdown

Washington, D.C. — Representative Ami Bera, M.D. (CA-06) issued the below statement after formally requesting that his congressional salary be withheld for the duration of the federal government shutdown:
“While our troops and federal workers are forced to work without pay during a shutdown, Members of Congress still get paid. That’s not right. If Congress can't do its job and keep the government open, we shouldn’t collect a paycheck either.”
