Budzinski Releases Anti-Corruption Agenda to Reform Federal Government

SPRINGFIELD, IL — Today, Congresswoman Nikki Budzinski (IL-13) announced a comprehensive Anti-Corruption Agendaaimed at cracking down on self-dealing, dark money, and restoring accountability to government. The agenda consists of forward-thinking legislation introduced by Budzinski’s colleagues in Washington, with the hope that a comprehensive agenda could be considered more formally. Later today, Budzinski will join End Citizens United President Tiffany Muller for a conversation on anti-corruption reform and the influence of money in politics.

“As corruption in the White House becomes increasingly normalized, it’s no surprise that more Americans are losing faith in public institutions. Restoring that trust requires a renewed commitment to integrity and accountability. I’m excited to back a handful of proposals that will do just that – and reaffirm that public service is meant to serve the people, not enrich those in power,” said Budzinski.

Budzinski is urging action on the following items:

Citizens Over Corporations Amendment (Rep. Joe Neguse) – Amendment to the Constitution that would overturn the Citizens United decision.

Presidential Accountability Amendment (Rep. Joseph Morelle) – Amendment to the Constitution to ensure that presidents and other top officials in government are not immune from criminal prosecution.

Insider Trading in Prediction Markets – Rep. Budzinski is currently drafting legislation to prohibit Members of Congress and government officials from trading on political outcomes on prediction markets like Polymarket.

Restore Trust in Congress Act (Rep. Chip Roy and Rep. Seth Magaziner) – Prohibits all Members of Congress, their spouses, dependent children, and their trustees from owning, buying, or selling individual stocks, securities, commodities, or futures.

High Court Gift Ban Act (Rep. Jamie Raskin and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez) – Bans SCOTUS justices from receiving gifts worth more than $50 in a single instance or $100 over the course of a year, aligning their ethical standards to those that Members of Congress abide by.

SCOTUS Ethics, Recusal, and Transparency Act (Rep. Hank Johnson) – Requires SCOTUS justices to adopt and follow a binding, enforceable code of ethics.

DISCLOSE Act – Requires organizations spending money in elections – including super PACs and dark money groups – to disclose donors who have given $10,000 or more in an election cycle.

Together, these reforms would reduce the influence of special interests, strengthen transparency, and help rebuild public confidence in democratic institutions.
