Big Beautiful Bill…for Billionaires.

July 11, 2025 Past Newsletters It’s an honor to serve as your representative. Last week, I voted NO on the Republican budget reconciliation bill — what they call the Big Beautiful Bill, but I call the Big Beautiful Bill for Billionaires because it helps the ultra-wealthy while hurting hardworking families This bill will lead to SNAP and Medicaid cuts, harming children, families, and entire communities. 600,000 Hoosiers rely on SNAP. 62% of SNAP beneficiaries are families with children. Without federal benefits, our state could either have an additional financial burden, or cut off SNAP benefits entirely – meaning too many kids in our community will go to bed hungry. The Big Beautiful Bill’s cuts don’t just impact who are enrolled in these programs – they hurt our entire community. Medicaid, Medicare, and Affordable Care Act cuts hurt our entire hospital system. Local hospitals in Indianapolis rely on Medicaid to keep their doors open – it’s very possible we see hospital closures in the coming years, especially in rural areas. This bill is disastrous – but I haven’t given up fighting. I’m introducing legislation in the coming weeks, including a bill to provide meals to kids in the summer months to counteract SNAP cuts. I will continue to vote NO on any harmful cuts, and encourage my colleagues to do the same. Cracks are forming – and we need to keep hammering away at those cracks.
