Boyle Statement on Trump’s So-Called NATO–Greenland “Deal Framework”
January 21, 2026 Press Release WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Brendan F. Boyle (PA-02), Lead Democrat of the U.S. Congressional Delegation to the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, issued the following statement in response to President Trump’s announcement of a so-called “deal framework” involving NATO and Greenland: “I’m glad Donald Trump is backing down, but none of this should have happened in the first place. This episode was completely unnecessary, and while the President may be retreating now, his tactics have already done real damage to U.S. credibility with our allies. Arctic security is a serious strategic issue — one that we in the NATO Parliamentary Assembly have worked on for years in close coordination with our partners. It requires steady leadership, diplomacy, and trust, not threats and chaos. The United States is strongest when we work with our allies, not when we manufacture crises that weaken the very alliances that keep us safe.” ###
