January 16, 2026 Rep. Sykes Announces Nearly $87,000 for Stark State Commercial Driver’s License Training Program NORTH CANTON, OH – Today, U.S. Representative Emilia Sykes (OH-13) announced the U.S. Department of Transportation has awarded $86,688 to Stark State College of Technology for Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) training. “This funding is a significant investment in our workforce and local economy. By expanding access to CDL training, we’re helping more residents gain in-demand skills so they can pursue jobs that are essential to our community in high-demand fields,” said Rep. Sykes. This grant will cover the cost for 12 students to enroll in Stark State’s CDL program. In order to obtain a CDL, an applicant must pass both skills and knowledge testing geared to higher standards of knowledge, experience, and skills. Additionally, CDL holders are held to a higher standard when operating any type of motor vehicle on public roads. Serious traffic violations committed by a CDL holder can affect their ability to maintain their CDL certification. Print Email Share Tweet
