Walberg-Backed HALT Fentanyl Act Passes House

Image February 4, 2025 Press Release Washington, D.C.-- Today, Congressman Tim Walberg (MI-05) voted in favor of H.R. 27, Halt All Lethal Trafficking (HALT) of Fentanyl Act, legislation that he had cosponsored. The HALT Fentanyl Act would permanently place fentanyl-related substances in Schedule I under the Controlled Substances Act. Without Congressional action, this classification would expire in March of this year. "In 2023, an estimated 75,000 people died of drug overdoses from synthetic opioids, including illicit fentanyl and fentanyl-related substances," said Rep Walberg . "Last week, President Trump announced the implementation of tariffs to address this emergency, and since then, both Canada and Mexico have agreed to assist in efforts to alleviate this crisis. House Republicans are building on this critical work by passing legislation to provide law enforcement with the tools necessary to keep these dangerous substances off our streets. We will continue to advance solutions to stem the tide of the fentanyl crisis and protect our communities." Congressman Walberg is a cosponsor of the HALT Fentanyl Act.
