Horsford Presses Hospital CEOs on Health Care Cuts, Demands Accountability for Nevada Patients and Workers
April 28, 2026 Press Release WASHINGTON D.C. – Congressman Steven Horsford (NV-04) today highlighted the devastating impacts of Congressional Republican’s decision to enact the largest healthcare cuts in U.S. history via the passage of the One Big Beautiful Bill, highlighting its real-world impacts to patients across Nevada during a House Ways and Means Committee hearing. The hearing featured executives from some of the nation’s largest hospital systems, including HCA Healthcare and CommonSpirit Health, which operate key facilities throughout Southern Nevada such as Sunrise Hospital, MountainView Hospital, and St. Rose Dominican. The Committee Hearing gave Congressman Horsford a direct platform to elevate the voices of Nevada families and frontline healthcare workers already grappling with the fallout of these cuts. "Last year, Republicans pushed through the largest healthcare cuts in American history, and now Nevadans are paying the price.” said Rep. Horsford. “Hospitals across our state are bracing for increased strain on emergency rooms, fewer resources for providers, and growing financial instability that threatens patient care. From rural communities to urban centers, these cuts are creating a dangerous ripple effect across Nevada’s healthcare system. When hospitals are forced to cut services or shut their doors, patients are left with fewer options, longer wait times, and higher costs. That is simply unacceptable and inexcusable.” During the hearing, Congressman Horsford pressed executives on how they plan to protect access to care, support their workforce, and prevent further strain on already overburdened emergency departments. He referenced a recent report from Public Citizen which found that four hospitals in Nevada are at risk of closing, reducing medical services, or laying off workers as a direct result of Republican’s passage of the One Big Beautiful Bill Act. Congressman Horsford also highlighted a major win for Nevada health care workers, with more than 300 Sunrise Hospital employees represented by SEIU Local 1107 securing their union contract after over a year of negotiations. During the hearing, the executive from HCA Healthcare committed to working with the union moving forward. To watch Rep.
