Congressman Tim Moore Raises Concerns Over National Debt, Calls for Bipartisan Fiscal Commission During Field Hearing

WASHINGTON, D.C. - During the House Budget Committee field hearing in Dallas, Texas, Congressman Tim Moore (NC-14) raised concerns about how the national debt is affecting North Carolina families and called for the establishment of a bipartisan fiscal commission to address this issue.
“[We need to make sure] that folks back home in our district understand how important this is,” said Congressman Moore. “Do you realize we're spending over $1 trillion a year in interest? That's more than we fund our military...The average family [pays]...a little over $500 [more] a month...in interest on a house payment because of [the national debt and inflation].”
During the hearing, "America's Fiscal Future: Examining the Need for a Fiscal Commission," the committee heard from several witnesses including former Defense Secretary Leon Panetta, former Sen. Joe Manchin III of West Virginia, and former Sen. Rob Portman of Ohio.
