Stanton, Democratic Ranking Members of House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure Demand Answers From FEMA and NOAA Following Devastating Texas Floods

WASHINGTON — Following the devastating flooding along the Guadalupe River and surrounding areas in Texas, House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure Ranking Member Rick Larsen (D-WA), Subcommittee on Public Buildings, Economic Development and Emergency Management Ranking Member Greg Stanton (D-AZ), House Committee on Science, Space and Technology Ranking Member Zoe Lofgren (D-CA) and Subcommittee on Environment Ranking Member Gabe Amo (D-RI) wrote to the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), which oversees the National Weather Service (NWS), demanding answers about federal activity in preparation for and response to these tragic floods. “The tragic loss of life has left families and communities shattered, and we extend our deepest condolences to those mourning the loss of loved ones. This disaster underscores the urgent need to examine the local, state, and federal response and ensure that every possible measure is taken to prevent such loss in the future,” the Members wrote . The Members also asked several questions, including whether progress has been made on 126 vacancies across the NWS, whether Acting FEMA Administrator David Richardson has any plans to visit Texas to oversee response efforts and whether FEMA’s response has been altered by President Trump’s reported plan to phase out the Agency.
