Hoeven Statement After EPA Repeals Biden-Era Clean Power Plan 2.0

WASHINGTON – Senator John Hoeven, a member of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee, issued the following statement after the Environmental Protection Agency repealed the Biden-era Clean Power Plan 2.0, an overreaching regulation that threatened the reliability of the electrical grid and premature closure of the nation’s coal-fired power plants. “Repealing this overreaching rule is a win for U.S. energy dominance and will help American families have access to the affordable and reliable baseload power provided by coal,” said Hoeven. “The Supreme Court found that this regulation falls far outside of the legal authority provided to the EPA by Congress. That’s why we continually pushed back on this federal overreach, and we appreciate the Trump administration and EPA Administrator Zeldin for working with us to repeal this harmful rule.” Specifically, the Clean Power Plan 2.0 would have forced states to change their fuel source for electricity. The Biden administration advanced the rule despite a Supreme Court ruling in 2022, which found the administration overstepped its authority in imposing the sector-wide regulation. Last year, Hoeven joined President Trump as he signed executive orders to initiate the process of repealing the rule and other harmful regulations imposed by the Biden administration.
