Johnson Announces Winner of 2025 Congressional Art Competition

Image May 28, 2025 Press Release DALLAS, TX — Congresswoman Julie Johnson (TX-32) is proud to announce that Amy Rodriguez, an 11th-grade student at W.W. Samuell High School in Dallas, has been selected as the winner of the 2025 Congressional Art Competition for Texas’s 32nd District. Amy’s artwork, Dreamcatcher, captivated the judges with its dynamic lines that convey a sense of movement and its vibrant colors, symbolizing childlike thoughts. Her piece will be displayed in the U.S. Capitol for the next year, representing the artistic talent of North Texas. “Every year, this competition gets fiercer, with so many incredible students from across the district submitting powerful, thoughtful artwork,” said Johnson. “But Amy’s Dreamcatcher immediately stood out. Her composition draws you in, and her use of color and motion shows maturity well beyond her years. I’m proud to have her represent our community in the halls of Congress. Her talent reminds us why arts education is essential and worth fighting for." “Art has taught me the confidence to believe in myself, and it has made my time as a student much richer because I can experiment and myself and see my imagination come to life,” said Amy Rodriguez. “I was excited at the opportunity to enter this competition when my teacher told me about it, and even more overjoyed to get a letter telling me I had won! My artwork is about dreaming of all the possibilities that the future can bring, as I bravely sail my little paper boat into it.” The Congressional Art Competition, established in 1982, is a nationwide high school visual art contest that recognizes and encourages artistic talent in each congressional district. Amy’s achievement highlights the importance of arts education and the exceptional abilities of students in Texas’s 32nd District.
