Scott Statement on SCOTUS Striking Down Trump Tariffs

February 20, 2026 Press Release WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Bobby Scott (VA-03) issued the following statement after the U.S. Supreme Court struck down President Trump’s sweeping tariffs: “Donald Trump’s sweeping tariffs and trade wars have been chaotic and reckless, raising costs for small businesses and adding roughly $1,700 to American families’ expenses since he took office . That is why I have opposed these tariffs and voted just last week to strike down the tariffs on Canada. Thankfully, the Supreme Court correctly concluded that the Trump tariffs are unlawful. It is time for the White House and Congressional Republicans to reverse course on their failed economic policies and stop worsening the affordability crisis.” In October, Congressman Scott joined House Democrats’ Litigation Task Force in filing an amicus belief challenging Trump’s Tariffs before the U.S. Supreme Court.
